Miniature Monday - Cangames After-Action Report
Happy Victoria Day to all our fellow Canadians! It was a busy weekend for the Faceless Publishing crew, as we attended Cangames. This small Ottawa gaming convention covers all manner of tabletop games, and we were happy to run a sponsor table there. We sold a significant number of The Age of Entropy novels, but our main focus was running Trinity: Battleground demos to spread awareness of our resurrection project. We put together a small 3-foot by 3-foot battlefield using the terrain from the original box and some 3d printed alien foliage (freely available from GrimGreeble), and ran a slightly simplified version of the rules to quickly get new players up to speed. Any players who participated were given a free Krikquill and Support Squad Avenger miniature to take home as a souvenir and a way to start their Trinity: Battleground collection.
We ran a simplified scenario where the only objective was to defeat the enemy, featuring a pair of 700 point lists. The Aberrant Cadre consisted of Nazul, Fhata Khan, and Caul Fein, while the Psion Strike Team contained Cameron, Somers, Jameson, and Batya.
We are thrilled to say the demos were a huge success! Players found the rules easy to learn and were able to quickly get embroiled in the action. Each demo lasted roughly an hour to an hour-and-a-half, with enough time to explain the rules and fight a full battle. The small size of the board played into the Aberrants' clawed hands, but the Psions' superior numbers and weaponry were enough to turn the tide, leaving the forces mostly evenly matched. Both forces had their share of victories and close losses over the course of the weekend, depending on the players' strategic skills and the luck of the dice. Everyone who tried a demo remarked on how much they enjoyed the game, with one player even calling it the highlight of the convention!
Even attendees who didn't try the game for themselves were intrigued by our work in resurrecting it, and appreciated our commitment to preserving Trinity: Battleground and other games that would otherwise be lost to time. Talking with people and listening to their passion for our shared miniature and wargaming hobby was a wonderful experience, and left us feeling even more energized to complete this project and make the game and its unique miniatures available again.
Once the resurrection of Trinity: Battleground is complete, we are excited to beginning the process for another game, applying the lessons and techniques we've learned to a new project. For now, of course, our focus is on getting Aberrants and Psions into the hands of gamers worldwide. Next week we will return with a reveal of another new miniature as we work towards the release later this year.
