Champions of Akathena can be played two or four players, and a typical game takes under an hour. Future expansions will add the ability to play with odd number of players, as well as expanding the Champions Combat System with additional champions and new gameplay options.
This product is a Print-and-Play preview of the Champions of Akathena board game.
Champions of Akathena is a fantasy combat board game created by Dan Piché and published by Faceless Publishing. Each player controls a heroic champion and their loyal reinforcements in battle. Players can battle one-on-one or in teams, and the side with the last champion standing wins. Battles can take place in a variety of environments, each of which offers different challenges and opportunities.
Although this preview version only contains two champions, the quick-moving Elven Swiftblade and the versatile Gnome Alchemist, the game will launch with eight unique champions and their associated reinforcements for players to choose from. The initial game release will include two boxes, Blood and Magic, and Into the Wild. Each game box contains four champions and their reinforcements, as well as two maps with changeable obstacles. The contents of the two boxes can be seamlessly combined to offer players even greater variety, and additional planned expansions will be just as easy to integrate.
Instead of dice, Champions of Akathena uses the unique and intuitive Champions of Adventure Combat System to resolve combat. This card-based system rewards strategic thinking and careful resource management, while providing a fun and unique playstyle for each champion that captures their abilities and personality. The Champions Combat System provides strategic depth without sacrificing intuitiveness, and a new player can learn the game within only a few minutes. Of course, mastering each of the varied champions will take much longer.
