Miniature Monday - A True Rat Resurrection
Today's Miniature Monday is very special, as we reveal a particularly exciting Goth Rat with a bit of a story behind it.
This heavily armed and armoured rodent was included in Red Shirt Games' Ratz squad as the Big Fister, armed with a fearsome Micro Minigun and Nut Crusher power fist. Initially, we thought it was simply another Goth Rat miniature that was given a more tongue-in-cheek name than most. But something grabbed our attention when we began looking into purchasing the rights to the Goth Rats line. Checking the Lost Minis Wiki showed photos of all the Goth Rats except two, the Havoc Mech-Rat and Ruin Mech-Rat. When we reached out to Johnny Lauck of Mega Miniatures to buy the line, we asked about the two missing rats. He informed us that although the rights to both miniatures were included when he acquired the line from DemonBlade Games, there had been no moulds or even individual castings of either of them. From the lack of information and some details about the sculpts themselves (including a mounting hole for the minigun that looks to have been drilled by hand), we believe that the models the Red Shirts Games team purchased were essentially prototypes that never made it into full production. Through sheer good fortune, we now found ourselves in possession of not just some of the only surviving examples of these rare miniature, but the rights to produce them! We're currently working on scanning them along with the rest of the Goth Rats, and these rats will need more cleanup and tweaking than the others before they're ready for the printer. Still, we're thrilled to be able to resurrect these nearly-lost figures and give them new life on the tabletop. Even more exciting, these rats are multi-part (as you can see from the body scan below), which opens easy conversion opportunities for gamers and makes it easy for us to add new parts in the future.
Of course, the question remains as to whether this little guy was the Havoc or Ruin Mech-Rat. We may never know for sure, but if you have any information, please reach out and let us know!
